SMART GROWTH BC

  • Smart Growth BC is dedicated to many land use and development principles that aim to enhance our quality of life, preserve the natural environment, and save money over time. Smart growth principles ensure that growth is fiscally, environmentally and socially responsible and recognizes the connections between development and quality of life. Smart growth enhances and completes communities by placing priority on infill, redevelopment, and green space protection.  As a primary development issue of concern, Smart Growth BC recognizes that affordable housing is the foundation of communities and an essential part of smart growth.
  • Affordable Housing: A Smart Growth Toolkit for BC Municipalities - This publication provides detailed explanations of eight tools and strategies, from inclusionary zoning to land banking, and highlights examples of best practices across BC demonstrating how local governments are adapting affordable housing strategies to fit their unique needs. It addresses the gap between 100% market-rate housing and 100% social housing.
